Stonehill College

New Residence Hall

Location: Easton, MA
Project Completed: 2010
Size: 75,000 GSF

After successfully completing the new Stonehill Science Building – and bringing the project in under budget – SLAM was selected to design a 75,000-GSF residential life building that would support the College’s increased enrollment and serve as a model for future residence hall building plans.

The College’s residential life philosophy focuses on housing that emphasizes transition to college life followed by gradual progression to an adult learning environment. The new building provides smaller, suite-style space for seniors and some juniors; maintains appropriate student/ professional staff ratio with a bed count of no more than 250 students; provides a large common area for multiple purposes as well as quiet study rooms on each floor and wireless access throughout.

  • to be as durable and maintenance friendly as possible
  • to be as energy efficient and sustainable as possible within the constraints of a modest construction budget
  • to design and construct the project within a very limited window of time
