This new 9,300 SF sports rehabilitation facility is located within the Chelsea Piers Connecticut Sports Complex in Stamford. A collaboration between Stamford Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the facility houses the expertise and latest protocols and practices in rehabilitative medicine and physical therapy treatments to the greater Stamford area. Designed by SLAM, the facility provides an innovative space for the rehabilitative therapy of sports-related injuries and conditions serving individuals of all ages, including competitive and recreational athletes. The program is managed by HSS, the internationally recognized expert in orthopedic care, and employs renowned orthopedists from both HSS and Stamford Hospital ensuring a patient experience with superior outcomes.

The new rehabilitation unit includes a 3,200 SF physical therapy gym, five open treatment bays, three private treatment rooms, hand therapy treatment space, a hydrotherapy pool, reception area, locker rooms and support space. The physical therapy gym takes full advantage of the existing two-story height space allowing ample ceiling height for fitness activities and equipment, including a state-of-the-art AlterG anti-gravity treadmill. The hydrotherapy pool is a unique physical therapy feature that assists in optimizing patient recovery and provides a safe environment for patients with post-operative precautions or to help with sports specific training.

For Stamford Hospital, patient experience is the top priority – and therefore the spaces are designed to foster a team-based approach to care enabling collaboration between Sports Rehab clinicians and a range of multi-disciplinary specialists resulting in the highest quality of patient-centered care. The design is focused on patient comfort providing an upscale aesthetic environment themed around vibrant active lifestyles. With high ceilings and transparency from inside to out, natural light floods the physical therapy space promoting health, wellness, and healing. Patients are welcomed by a warm wood ceiling, modern terrazzo flooring, and an abstract custom-made mural located in the reception area designed to represent energy and motion. This new space is meant to break the mold of institutional physical therapy, reflecting a sporty, modern, and recreational environment.”
