Bradley Hospital

LIFESPAN

Location: East Providence, RI
Project Completed: 2009
Size: 52,000 SF (new) 10,000 SF (reno)
(our new building…) “sends a very different message to children and families when they come on the unit – that they deserve the best and we’re here to give them the best,” (Daniel J. Wall, Bradley Hospital President and CEO)
what mattered to the client
  • to maintain and enhance the reputation for humane and therapeutic care of the nation's first psychiatric hospital devoted solely to children and adolescents
  • to replace and renovate increasingly overcrowded and run-down facilities
  • to minimize the presence of the new addition on the natural, wooded site
outcomes-based design RESULTS
  • The new addition and renovations house a total of 60 replacement beds (30 Adolescent Unit Beds; 15 CADD Unit Beds; 15 Children’s Unit Bed), providing safe and secure nursing units for Children, Adolescent and Developmental Disability Inpatients.
  • The new construction is tucked behind the original 4-story building, allowing patient rooms to be part of new construction and utilizing the historic building for office and support space.
  • The design maximizes opportunities for outdoor play areas and enhances the natural character of the site.
