University of Hartford - Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies

Location: Hartford,CT

SLAM provided Design, Pre-Construction and Construction Management services for a 5,800 SF interior renovation of the second-floor former Allen library space into the University’s new Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies. This hybrid space is unique to higher education and serves as a community and University teaching environment.

The renovated space now contains an advanced research library and an open commons that duals as an auditorium lecture space, offices, seminar rooms and stores over 5,000 books and videos. The Center’s special collection rooms house artifacts, books and artwork about Jewish civilization throughout the world.

SLAM worked with the University to develop a cost-effective solution utilizing the existing building structure, fenestration, and infrastructure.Interior renovation scope included new glazed walls and doorways, finishes, lighting, and a new elevator lobby entrance. The new space was designed to increase natural light into the existing library space and create an open communal learning environment for students, faculty and the community. The project was designed to a limited budget and constructed within a summer time frame.
