Stonehill College in Easton, MA, broke ground last month for its new Academic & Welcome Center designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM).
The new 36,000-SF Academic & Welcome Center, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2018, will serve as the gateway to the college for prospective students and their families, and as a dynamic hub for academic and student life. Located on the college’s main quad, the building will feature an outdoor terrace, large lobby and gathering spaces; large classroom and seminar rooms integrated with faculty offices to enhance faculty and student interaction; a bookstore; café; a 380-seat auditorium to host guest lectures, presentations or symposia; and a new home for the Admission Office.
“A state-of-the-art addition, the Center represents a statement of confidence by the College in its educational mission and its future,” says Neil Martin, AIA, SLAM Design Principal. “We are thrilled that construction has begun on this exciting new building and look forward to the ways it will enrich faculty and student life for the Stonehill community.”
SLAM is also designing the college’s new School of Business building, which will be completed in time for the 2019 academic year. The addition of the Academic & Welcome Center and the School of Business building will transform and energize the heart of the Stonehill campus.
“We have a strong partnership with SLAM and, with them on the project, we know that the Academic & Welcome Center will really serve our community and strengthen our educational mission,” said Rev. John Denning, president of Stonehill College. BOND Construction is serving as the Construction Manager for both projects.
